Rehearsal Notes

At the request of Maestro Jonathan Griffith please memorize the following sections:

Jenkins’s The Armed Man: A Mass for Peace
- In Movement 7, “Charge” ~ From rehearsal letter “H” (measure 132) to the end of the movement.
- In Movement 13, “Better is Peace” ~ From rehearsal letter “K” (measures 143) to the end of movement.

- Please sing all dynamics and tempi as written. We will be singing Liturgical Latin (Italianate Latin) for all Latin movements.

Overall Performance Notes & General Info

IN NY - SECURITY:
ALL rehearsals, including the Dress Rehearsal, are closed to the public. ONLY those who possess DCINY issued badges will be admitted to the rehearsal site(s) and to the dress rehearsal site.

Security Lists
The security list is a complete and thorough personnel list, containing legal names (given and surname) as they would appear on a government issued document. (The official security list will be made from the roster (or “vitals) list that you submi to DCINY.)

Performers
All performers will be issued a badge that must be on your person at all times, even during the performance itself on stage.**ADMITTANCE TO DCINY EVENTS AND REHEARSALS WILL BE DENIED UNLESS BADGE IS PRESENTED.**

All rehearsal sites and performance venues have specific security requirements; therefore, the DCINY badge will act as official identification in order to make things run smoothly.

VIP Patrons
VIP Patrons will be issued a badge that will grant access to the rehearsal site(s), the dress rehearsal site, and to the post concert reception.

All VIP Patrons will be issued a badge that must be on your person at all times.

CONCERT INFORMATION:

Performance photography and recording
No photographing, videotaping, or sound recording of any rehearsal and/or performance or the possession of any device for such use is allowed inside the venues, whether in the hall, dressing rooms or backstage, without the written permission of the Management of the venue. It is prohibited by law. Offenders may be ejected and liable for damages and other lawful remedies.

Dress Rehearsal
- Dress rehearsals are typically held in the performance venue (upon availability) with all participants.
- Punctuality is extremely important.
- The mental effort and concentration of a performance is required.

RECEPTION:
A reception exclusively for performers and VIP Patrons will occur after the performance. This is a private event for DCINY

Registered Performers and VIP Patrons, no other persons are permitted. The name and location of the reception is given on the schedule provided by DCINY.

VIP PATRONS: (VIP Patron packages are to be purchased absolutely no later than 14 days prior to the concert date. Please note that there is limited space availability. Individual concert tickets cannot be upgraded to VIP Patron packages. – See below for individual concert ticket ordering information.

Dress Code
Most venues generally do not have a dress code for audience members. However, we encourage those attending the concert to make a special occasion of the concert experience.

EXTRA INCLUSIONS:

Archival Performance recording
Each participating ensemble of 10 or more registered performers will receive ONE archival performance recording for posterity, which may not be duplicated or sold for any purpose. An archival agreement will need to be signed prior to receiving your recording. The recording will be sent to the group within 4 to 6 weeks after the performance date.

Archival Ensemble Photograph
Each participating ensemble of 10 or more registered performers will receive ONE archival group photo for posterity, which may not be duplicated or sold for any purpose, and a framed poster which announced the performance. The photograph will be sent to thegroup within 4 to 6 weeks after the performance date.

 

Concert Attire & Protocol

Concert attire is the responsibility of each individual singer. Remember that it is the stage appearance of the ensemble that takes precedence over the individual. Also, please note that the heat of stage lighting and the anxiety of public performance amplify odors; therefore, please shower and be sure not to wear perfume, scented deodorant, cologne, or scented hair spray on stage.

- MEN: Black tuxedo/suit with white tuxedo shirt or dress shirt, black bow tie (vest or cummerbund optional). Polished black dress shoes – no gym shoes – with black socks.

- WOMEN: Long, all-black concert attire with a moderate neckline. All sleeve lengths are acceptable, but any thin-cut straps should be covered with a shawl or wrap, jacket or dressy cardigan. Skirt or dress should be floor, ankle, or ballerina/tea length. Side or front slits are inappropriate; however, back slits are permitted. Any pants should be dressy evening wear. Black dress shoes which are comfortable to stand in for a long period of time.

- ACCESSORIES: Please accessorize conservatively and formally. Use soundless jewelry and scentless body products, please.

- MUSIC:

o All performers are required to make use of a black folder (paper, leather, etc.) to hold their score.
o An imprinted name or emblem on the folder is acceptable.
o If the music is memorized, then a folder is not necessary.

While on Stage
- Food and water are NOT allowed on stage at any time.
- Cell phones, purses, jackets, hats, etc. are NOT allowed on stage at any time.

Other portions of the concert

- You may hear the other portions of the concert in your designated holding rooms backstage through the  live broadcast over the house system.
- All performers are encouraged and welcomed to attend the dress rehearsal of the other portion(s).
- The use of cell phones and other disruptive behavior is prohibited while rehearsals are in progress

REHEARSALS
Attendance to all rehearsals is mandatory and crucial for all performing ensembles. Highly productive rehearsals aree ssential in order to create a cohesive ensemble and to produce an inspiring musical performance; therefore, each chorus member is expected to be thoroughly prepared musically prior to rehearsals. Please note that not only is attendance important, but so is punctuality. *Group directors (or group’s representative present in New York City), whether performing or not, are expected to be in attendance at all rehearsals accompanying their ensemble.*

Please keep a copy of the most current schedule on hand at all times so you have reference of when you need to be somewhere.

Call times
- Please do not arrive to the location later than the specified call time.
- Call times have been assigned in order to assure that the rehearsal’s downbeat is on schedule.

Locations
- Addresses and websites have been provided on the schedule to assist you in familiarizing yourself with the directions from your respective accommodations to the venue as thoroughly and in advance as feasibly possible.
- It is strongly recommended to map out your travel plans for each rehearsal day corresponding to your accommodation site prior to your arrival to New York City.
